Wheat...A modest bounce across the futures complex gave west coast
cash bids some footing on Tuesday, with bids moving five to ten cents
higher. White wheat basis to Chicago has strengthened nearly 50 cents
since late May, while spreads between dark northern spring and hard red
winter wheat have narrowed significantly.
Crop Progress...Crop ratings for the Pacific Northwest winter wheat
crop slipped a point to 103% of average last week, as all three states
saw a mild shift toward "good" ratings. Idaho gained a point to an 82%
good to excellent, Oregon slipped 5 points to 50% and Washington saw a
2 point drop to 75%. Spring wheat is off to a relatively good start as
Idaho reports 75% good to excellent and Washington is at 67%.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed 11.7 million bushels in
wheat loadings last week, puttng the new marketing year total 8% ahead
of a year ago. Hard red spring wheat moved 4.3 million bushels, hard red
winter was at 4.1 million and soft white registered just 771,000 bushels.
West coast exporters loaded out 4.4 million bushels of wheat, mostly to
Indonesia, along with 20.4 million bushels of corn.
