Wheat...Continued declines across the futures complex weighed on west
coast cash wheat bids in early-week trade, but white wheat did manage to
gain back a nickel as basis to Chicago strengthens. Nearby basis is now
about a dime over Chicago, which is up nearly $1 dollar since the first
part of September.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed another relatively light
week of U.S. wheat movement, coming in at just 6.7 million bushes. This
puts year-to-date loadings at 272 million, which is running 36% behind a
year ago. White wheat was the top mover with 2.5 million bushels, with
hard red spring at 1.9 million and hard red winter at 1.2 million. West
coast exporters continued the seasonal push toward moving soybeans with
32.6 million bushels shipped for China, while wheat loadings for South
Korea and Vietnam totaled just 3.4 million bushels.
Crop Progress...Winter wheat plantings are virtually complete across
the Pacific Northwest, just in time to take advantage of a steady band
of moisture moving through this week. Both Idaho and Washington report
98% planted, with Oregon at 90%. Emergence is running 15% better than
average for both Oregon and Washington.
